EDUCATION IS OUR PASSION
Alex and Barb Martin. Our goal is to provide a fall adventure where everyone has a chance to have a ton of fun and learn something about plants along the way. Yes, we are passionate about education and that is the compass the guides us. We also have grandchildren who we consult with from time to time to make sure "fun" remains a top priority. They are very interested in things like caramel apples, cider slush, and tractor-time.
Alex is a retired university professor with more than 30 years of experience in agronomy, specifically extension & research. His career was devoted to production agriculture and he translated that passion from field crops to "orcharding." He knows what it takes to grow an apple in Nebraska. No small challenge. He also has a passion for gears and grease, which translates to tractors. Happily, tractors are fairly important in maintaining an orchard. Life is good.

Barb has a masters in education and has always been passionate about teaching kids about plant-life. Just ask her children and grandchildren. Her parents managed a pick-your-own strawberry and Christmas tree farm, so I guess you could say "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree." She is the mastermind behind the Orchard Tours and she works diligently to ensure the orchard activities are fun for parents, teachers, and kids-alike. Barb isn't a big fan of gears and grease. |

About
Us
Martin's Hillside Orchard is a u-pick orchard offering apples, raspberries, strawberries (June only), pumpkins and peaches. We also have a fall play area for the kids, including a butterfly garden and a Discovery Trail.
We began planting our orchard in 1984 and currently have approximately 1500 trees.
We are a great option for families looking for economical, outdoor fall fun. Many guests come back week after week.
