more about our Apple
Varieties
We
make our cider in an old-fashioned wooden cider press. No shortcuts, no preservatives, and no additives. Just apples through and through.
Our cider is not pasteurized. Please refrigerate or freeze for use later.
Look for cider slushies as well. It keeps our grandchildren coming back for more.
Mighty tasty!
Why don't we offer cider at the beginning of apple season? We are pretty particular about quality control. We want to make the best tasting cider possible and that means we need a mix of apple varieties, including Jonathans, which provide the full-bodied flavor we love. Sounds like something off of "Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives". Jonathans ripen in mid-September and we "fire up" the cider press as soon as we're able to get a few bushels picked.

Cider Saga
-- Making cider is a pretty labor-intensive process with our old-fashioned wooden press. But our first batch this year was something else. Check it out . . .
After 5 hours of concentrated effort, we thought we were ready to switch to bottling mode. (Tired, but end in sight) Unfortunately, the caps did NOT fit the cider jugs. Really? (Now, very tired)
We made a trip to Lincoln that night to find matching caps. No luck. (Beyond tired)
So, it was off to Omaha the next day. (Tired, but determined to see this through). Success at last! We found caps that fit the jugs. We then switched them out with the ill-fitting caps we had originally tried to use. Yeah! Folks won't be splashing the interiors of their vans and SUVs with cider. PHEW!!!
Thankfully, we seemed to have worked out the kinks as the season progressed. Guess Murphy's Law applies in the orchard too.
Sometimes you have to just roll with the punches.
