Butterfly Garden

Our fall outdoor butterfly garden is designed to attract native butterflies and caterpillars. It's a great opportunity to learn about these fascinating creatures up close.

Here is a winged visitor who stopped by this past weekend

We've planted lots of Asclepia (plants in the milkweed family) for the Monarch caterpillars as well as tons of great nectar plants for butterflies of all varieties. We post signs and information in areas where you are likely to find caterpillars and butterflies sampling a flower or two.

Lots of photo opportunities!

Any idea what kind of butterfly is featured in the photo above? Our "Butterfly Safari" will get you up to speed.

Butterfly Garden How-Tos

Our butterfly garden is registered as a Monarch Waystation

What is a waystation?
It's a place for the Monarchs to rest and fuel up for their long migration down to Mexico each fall. The Monarchs will be migrating through the orchard in mid-September, approximately 9/8 thru 9/20.

Check out the Monarch Watch web site for more details on this program and how to create your own Waystation.
